Each year, millions flock to the Hawaiian Islands to experience the natural beauty, wonder, and splendor that they have to offer. Maui is the second largest island in Hawaii, and for many travelers, Maui offers the most authentic experience of the “real” Hawaii, including watching the sunrise from atop a several thousand foot volcano, to exploring a bamboo forest, and endless miles of beautiful waterfalls and black sand beaches.
On average, Maui welcomes over two million tourists each year. The majority of visitors come from the U.S. mainland and Canada to spend time on the Road to Hana, Lahaina, and the Haleakala National Park. The Road to Hana is a highway along Maui’s east coast, which stretches and curves along black sand beaches and breathtaking waterfalls. The Haleakala National Park has as its centerpiece a dormant volcano; many argue that some of the most incredible, if not the best sunrises in the world can be viewed from atop the volcano in Haleakala National Park. Another main attraction on the island of Maui is Lahaina, a street of restaurants and shops that ends on a wharf, which is the launch for a number of oceanic adventures, including snorkeling.
Maui is also a fantastic place to go on a whale-watch. Humpback whales migrate close to four thousand miles each autumn from Alaska. During the winter months, humpback whales mate and birth in the warm, beautiful waters off of the coast of Maui. Visitors can charter private boats or hop aboard a larger vessel and sail out to observe these truly wondrous creatures. Often the whales are found in clusters of seven or more, including adults and new born calves. Since they are an endangered species, humpback whales are protected by Federal and State laws, and as their numbers increase, so does the opportunity to spot many whales over the course of just a two to three hour tour. Maui is truly paradise; it offers travelers the opportunity to become fully enveloped in the culture and natural beauty of the Hawaiian Islands.
