View/Change Reservations


1. Can I view my Northwest flight itinerary no matter where it was booked?  

You can view your reservation on nwa.com regardless of where it was booked. From the nwa.com home page, click on View Reservations button or click here. On the View Reservations and E-Ticket details page, enter passenger's last name and the confirmation number or the SkyMiles number and PIN, or E-Ticket number to view reservation details.


2. What is my confirmation number?  

Your reservation confirmation number is a 6 character (alpha numeric) code. You can find this on your ticket receipt or your itinerary.


3. How can I re-confirm my reservation?  

Your confirmed reservation can be viewed on nwa.com. From the nwa.com home page, click "View Reservations" or click here. On the View Reservations and E-Ticket Details page, enter passenger's last name and the confirmation number or SkyMiles number and PIN. The confirmed flights will be displayed when you view your reservation. We recommend checking the flight and gate status before departure in case of any schedule changes. It is not necessary to re-confirm your reservation. If a flight is on request, it will be indicated on the Reservation display.


4. How can I view my seat assignments, meals, and aircraft type on my flights?  

You can view the flight information when you view your reservation details. From the nwa.com home page, click "View Reservations" or click here. On the View Reservations and E-Ticket Details page, enter passenger's last name and the confirmation number or SkyMiles number and PIN. The reservation details are displayed along with your flight information.


5. How do I change my seat?  

At any time, you can go to view or change your current seat assignment. Here's how to view a seat map for your currently displayed itinerary.

Click on "Seat assignments" link on the Reservation Details page -or- Click on a seat number located in the itinerary detail section for each flight in your trip. Follow the on-screen prompts:

  • Select the flight
  • Select the traveler's name/seat
  • Select the seat of your choice
  • Your seat is not confirmed until you select "Continue" or select another flight


6. Why can't I assign seats for a particular flight?  

Not all flights are available for online seat assignment.  Some flights may not be available for seat assignment until a certain period before departure. You may select your seat preference (any, aisle, or window) and your seat will automatically be selected when seat assignments are available.


7. How do I add or update my frequent flyer number in my reservation?  

You can add or update your SkyMiles or partner frequent flyer number information in your future reservations at anytime. Here's how to add a frequent flyer number to your currently displayed itinerary.

Click on "Update Frequent Flyer Info" link on the Reservation Details page -or- Click on your currently displayed frequent flyer number. Follow the on-screen prompts:

Select the update button for the selected traveler(s) name(s)

Update the frequent flyer program number information

Select "Continue" when finished to update your reservation and return to nwa.com View Reservations.

You will receive credit on all Northwest flights for the frequent flyer number that is entered. To ensure credit on partner flights, please have your frequent flyer card available at check-in.


8. How can I e-mail my itinerary to myself or a friend?  

When you view your itinerary on nwa.com, click on E-mail Itinerary from the Reservation Details page. The itinerary can be e-mailed to yourself or anyone else.


9. I entered my name and confirmation number, but I don't see the reservation details. Why do I receive an error?  

You can view details of current and future reservations only. If it is a past date reservation, details can not be viewed. You may view E-Ticket receipt and details for past travel reservation.  Click here or from the Manage My Reservations page, enter the E-Ticket number and last name to view E-Ticket details.

If you originally booked your flights on nwa.com, you may also go to My Info section in nwa.com Reservations to view all reservations.


10. When viewing my reservation on nwa.com, I see that the times of the flights have changed. Why did this change occur without notification to me? Is there anything I need to do?  

When a schedule change occurs we contact passengers based on their date of departure. If your travel is for a date in the future, you are likely to have not been contacted yet. If you have noticed a change in your reservation, we ask that you please contact Reservations at 1-800-225-2525. They will assist you with the details of the change and help you with reviewing other possible flight options, if you choose.

You may sign up to automatically receive flight schedule change notification. Free registration on  My NWA Info is available to all SkyMiles members. You may choose to be notified of any scheduled changes via e-mail, phone or wireless device


11. There was a schedule change in my reservation. Due to other travel plans, I won't be able to make this new time. What do I need to do?  

If there has been a change to your reservation and you are unable to accept the new the times, please contact Reservations at 1-800-225-2525. They will assist you with finding other possible flights or explaining other options to you.


12. What do I do if I have not received my Trip Summary & Receipt?  

You may print a copy of your itinerary and E-Ticket receipt on nwa.com. From the nwa.com home page, click on View Reservations; provide passenger's last name and confirmation number or SkyMiles number and PIN.  View the desired Reservation Details, and then click on the E-Ticket number or 'View Receipts' button to view and print the trip summary and receipt.


13. How can I get an E-Ticket receipt for my trip?  

For current and future travel reservations:

  • For Northwest Airlines Electronic Tickets purchased anywhere, a Trip Summary and Receipt may be viewed and printed on nwa.com. From the nwa.com home page, click on View Reservations, provide passenger's last name and confirmation number or SkyMiles number and PIN plus month of travel.  View the desired reservation detail, and then click on the E-Ticket number to view and print the Trip Summary and Receipt.  An E-Ticket receipt can also be printed when you use an airport Self-service Check-in Kiosk to check in for your flight.
  • A receipt for Special Service Fee paid directly to Northwest Airlines is displayed on nwa.com along with the E-Ticket receipt.
  • If your reservation was originally booked on nwa.com, you may view and print your flight details from the nwa.com Reservations My Info page. From the "Reservations Center", select "Shop for Flights" to go to "My Info" page.

For past travel reservations:

  • E-Ticket receipts can be viewed and printed on nwa.com at least up to 90 days after the final flight departure date. Click here and please provide the passenger last name and E-Ticket number.
  • If the reservation was booked on nwa.com, you may log in and go to My Info page on nwa.com Reservations to review past travel reservation details.
  • For reservations booked with your travel agent, please contact the travel agency to receive a copy of the ticket.
  • If unable to view receipt by any of the above, please contact Delta to receive a copy of the ticket as follows:

Please provide the ticket number, passenger name, travel date, other related information, and send along with a service fee of USD 20.00 per ticket copy to Delta.

Receipts can be either mailed or e-mailed as requested. The receipts are sent within 10 business days after the written request is received.


14. How much will it cost me to change my purchased E-Ticket?  

Cost of changing an existing E-Ticket depends on fare rules of the original ticket, availability and applicable fare of new itinerary. Change fees apply to most non-refundable fares. There is no additional processing fee for the online ticket exchange.


15. What will it cost for me to change my SkyMiles Award reservation?  

Once award tickets are confirmed, any changes requiring assistance from a Northwest agent will require a SkyMiles administrative change fee that is per person, per ticket. In most cases, you may avoid or reduce this fee by changing your E-Ticket online. Platinum Elite members are exempt from most fees. 16. Can I change my existing reservation online?  

You may change flights and exchange all or part of a Northwest Airlines E-Ticket online. To do so, click here and select "Electronic Exchange of a Northwest E-Ticket." Enter the passenger's name and confirmation number. From the "Reservation Details" page, select "Change Reservation" to begin the exchange process.

17. Can I change just the return portion of my trip?  

Yes, you can change your reservation on a wholly or partially unused ticket.


18. What is Northwest Airline's policy regarding changing SkyMiles Award Travel reservation?

19. How can I re-confirm my flights?  

Northwest and KLM do not require you to reconfirm your flights. However, to provide your current contact information, please click the Reconfirm Reservation link from the Travel Reservations & E-Ticket Details page and you will be prompted to reconfirm flights and add your contact information to the reservation.

If your flight is operated by any other alliance carrier, you may wish to contact them directly.


Ticket Exchanges


1. Can I exchange my Award Travel ticket if my itinerary includes other partner airlines?  

Yes, online changes may be made to reservations that include flights operated by Northwest Airlines and the following Alliance carriers:

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Alaska Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta Airlines, Aero Mexico, Air France, Alitalia, Czech Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines and Korean Air.

All original tickets must be issued by Northwest Airlines. Click here for more information about the SkyMiles administrative fee for reissuing an award ticket.


2. Why do I receive an error message when I try to reissue my ticket online?  

Our automated reissue system on nwa.com may not be able to reissue an itinerary for a variety of reasons. Some of the reasons may include tickets issued by another airline or fare restrictions. Reservations that cannot be changed on nwa.com must be processed by a Northwest agent and fees will apply. Please contact nwa.com website online support at 1-800-692-6955.  For assistance with Award Travel Reservations, please contact the SkyMiles Service Center at 1-800-447-3757. 3. Can I transfer my unused ticket to my family or a friend?  

All Northwest tickets are non-transferable per the fare rules.


Upgrade using miles from your SkyMiles account


1. Can I upgrade my existing flights using miles on nwa.com?  

If your reservation qualifies for online upgrade using miles, you will see a link to Upgrade flights on the Reservation Details page. The following types of reservations qualify for a mileage upgrade on nwa.com:

  • Only E-Tickets may be upgraded using miles
  • All flights must be operated and marketed by Northwest Airlines
  • Only Northwest Airlines E-Tickets beginning with 012 may be reissued with upgrade.
  • At least one flight segment on the E-Ticket must be available for use.
  • The original ticket must be issued in conjunction with a published fare.
  • Additional fare may apply.

2. Is there a cost to upgrade flights using miles?  

All fares are not eligible for upgrade using miles. Depending upon the fare rules of your originally purchased ticket; an additional fare may be required along with the miles to upgrade your flights. You will see a page with the entire cost summary. The reservation will not be changed until you review the costs and choose to process the ticket exchange.


3. How will I know if I have enough miles for the upgrade?  

You may log-in on nwa.com to review your SkyMiles Account balance at any time.

The amount of miles required for the upgrade is dependent on the fare rules of the original ticket. An error will be displayed during the upgrade transaction if you do not have sufficient miles for the upgrade.


4. Can I change or upgrade flights on just a portion of my reservation?  

You will have the option to change all or selected flights during the upgrade transaction. However, upgrade request will be processed for all the flights in the itinerary. Upgrade for selected flights may not be requested. A message will be displayed if only some of the flights are available for an upgrade.


5. What if I do not have enough miles in my SkyMiles Account?  

Miles can be applied from any SkyMiles Account. However, the member must either log-in on nwa.com or retrieve the reservation using Account number and PIN in order to use the miles from the SkyMiles account.


6. I have an Award reservation. Can I upgrade flights using miles?  

To upgrade flights using miles for an Award reservation, select `Change Reservation' link from the Travel Reservation details page. The Upgrade Flights link will process upgrade for E-Tickets purchased using a published fare.


Ticket Refunds


1. My plans have changed and I can not use my ticket. Can I get a refund?  

An E-Ticket with a refundable fare can be refunded online. From nwa.com home page, select `View Reservations' or click here to go to `View Reservations & E-Ticket Details' page. Provide passenger last name and confirmation no. or E-Ticket number. On the `Reservation Details' page, you will see a link for Cancel Reservation and request refund. Click this link to request refund. If your E-Ticket is non-refundable, you will not receive a refund. However, you may continue to cancel your flights. Online refund can be requested for Northwest Airlines E-Tickets only (ticket number beginning with 012). All the flights in the reservation must be marketed by Northwest and KLM.


2. I booked my reservation yesterday. Can I cancel reservation and get a refund under Customers First policy?  

Yes, if your reservation was booked within the past 24 hours, you may cancel your reservation and get a refund for an E-Ticket on nwa.com. From nwa.com home page, select `View Reservations' or click here to go to `View Reservations & E-Ticket Details' page. Provide passenger last name and confirmation number. From the `Reservation Details' page, you will see a link for `Cancel Reservation and request refund. Click this link to cancel all flights and request refund.


3. I don't have a current reservation; however my E-Ticket is refundable. Can I request a refund on nwa.com?  

Yes, as long as your Northwest Airlines E-Ticket status is `Open for Use', a refund may be requested online. From nwa.com home page, select `View Reservations' or click here to go to `View Reservations & E-Ticket Details' page. Provide passenger last name and E-Ticket number. From the Reservation Details page, you will see a link for Cancel Reservation and request refund. Click this link to request refund. Online refund can be requested for E-Tickets with Northwest and KLM marketed flights only.


4. Can I get a refund if a lower fare applies to the new itinerary?  

Your E-Ticket may be exchanged online regardless of the fare difference. After you select the new itinerary, lowest applicable fare will be displayed for the new itinerary.  A change/cancel fee may apply depending upon the fare rules.  Options for refund are displayed based on the original fare rules. One of the following 3 options may apply:

  • An Electronic Credit Voucher (ECV) may be issued.
  • Refundable amount may be credited to the original form of payment.
  • If the original ticket was paid for with cash or check, you can expect to receive the refund by mail within 2 weeks.

All refunds and reissues are subject to audit by Northwest Passenger Accounting.


5. I will not be able to use my non-refundable Northwest Airlines paper ticket or E-Ticket. Am I eligible for a refund?  

All tickets issued on/after 01NOV06 will no longer expire 90 days after the first unused flight coupon and can be reissued according to the NW ticket validity policies.  Refundable and Nonrefundable tickets expire one year after date of first departure on ticket.  Once any ticket expires, Northwest will retain all amounts collected from the passenger as an administrative service charge/cancellation fee. All partially used tickets, without exception, are valid for one year from the date travel originated.

If exchanged, the new ticket will then be valid for travel originating within one year from the date of the exchange. You may check the status of your E-Ticket and reschedule flights at Manage My Reservation.


6. How do I obtain an adjustment related to a trip where I had tickets in First Class or BusinessElite? but flew in Coach Class?  

Please send your passenger receipt coupon related to your trip, as well as your boarding passes along with a brief summary of facts to the following address:

7. I purchased my ticket from a travel agent. Can I refund it on nwa.com?  

If your ticket was purchased for a published unrestricted fare, you may refund it on nwa.com. Otherwise, please check with your travel agent as restrictions may apply.


8. Can I cancel my Award ticket online and re-deposit miles into my account?  

You can cancel most wholly unused award travel E-Tickets and redeposit the miles online to your account. From the nwa.com home page, click "View Reservations". Select "Cancel an award reservation" or click here, enter passenger's last name and E-Ticket number. A $100 administrative fee per person applies to award tickets redeposited on nwa.com. 9. Can I cancel or change my Award reservation even if I am not the SkyMiles Account holder?  

You may change reservations online if there is no change to the mileage amount requirement. If the change requires additional miles collection, then the member must log in to their account online and make the change.


Reservation Cancellation


1. My plans have changed and I will not be able to travel as scheduled. Can I cancel my reservation on nwa.com?  

Yes, you may cancel your reservation online regardless of whether your ticket is refundable or non-refundable. However, the cancellation can be processed only if you have a wholly or partially 'Open for Use' E-Ticket associated with the reservation. From nwa.com home page, select 'View Reservations' or click here to go to 'View Reservations & E-Ticket Details' page. Provide passenger last name and confirmation number or E-Ticket number. From the `Reservation Details' page, you will see a link for Cancel Reservation and request refund. Click this link to check for refund. If the ticket is non-refundable, you will not get a refund. However, you can continue to cancel your flights. Only Northwest and KLM marketed flights may be cancelled online. If your reservation includes flights marketed by other airlines, you will not have an option to cancel flights.


2. We have a reservation for multiple travelers. Some members of the party will be unable to travel. Can we cancel reservation for only some of the travelers?  

You may select the passenger names whose reservation needs to be cancelled. View your reservation details by providing the reservation information under Manage My Reservation section. From the Reservation Details page, click the link to `Cancel reservation and request refund'. If your reservation has more than one passenger, you will have the option to select the names from the list before proceeding with the Cancel reservation request.
