1. What is travel protection?

Northwest now offers Trip Protector through an insurance provider, Access America. Trip Protector is the combination of travel insurance benefits and travel assistance services designed to provide you greater peace of mind and added protection when traveling. It's something that every traveler needs, no matter what type of trip they're taking.

2. Why should I purchase travel protection?

Travel protection insures your financial investment (up to the amount of your policy limits) should your trip be cancelled or interrupted for a covered reason, and it provides valuable assistance services. Subject to the terms and conditions, here are a few of the benefits you'll enjoy:

  • Reimbursement of the non-refundable portion of your travel investment if you have to cancel or interrupt your travel for a covered reason;
  • Reimbursement for unexpected travel expenses you might incur;
  • 24-hour access to emergency medical referrals and assistance;
  • Medical assistance abroad (your case will be monitored by staff back home)

3. What does travel protection cover?

The insurance component of travel protection provides reimbursement for non-refundable financial expenses associated with certain cancelled or interrupted trips. The valuable assistance services provide help when you need it most. Click below to get the specifics:

  • Trip Cancellation
  • Trip Interruption
  • 24-hour assistance hotline

4. What will the 24-hour hotline service do for me?

Access America(r) offers a 24-hour hotline staffed with multilingual specialists, trained to help travelers with emergency medical, legal or travel help. And should a medical emergency arise, we will coordinate medical assistance and emergency transportation.

5. Can I cancel my trip for any reason and get all my money back?

No. Trip Cancellation coverage will only refund prepaid, non-refundable payments if you have to cancel for a covered reason. Covered reasons include sudden medical emergencies, death of a family member or traveling companion, certain terrorist acts (as described below), or bad weather  that completely shut down your common carrier, or being called for jury duty. There are other reasons as well, see the Terms and Conditions for complete details. Please note that no benefits will be extended for cancellations due to business obligations or simply changing your mind, as these are not covered reasons.

6. Are there events or medical conditions that are not covered?

Every insurance plan contains restrictions and limitations. Existing medical conditions are one of these limitations. For more information, please refer to the terms and conditions, or contact Access America at 1-800-496-6903 to receive more detailed information.

7. Who provides the insurance for these programs?

Benefits are provided through Access America, a service mark and a division of World Access Service Corp. Insurance coverage is provided under Form No. 52.401 or 52.201 issued by BCS Insurance Company or Form No. 101-C-XX-01 or 101-P-XX-01 issued by Jefferson Insurance Company.
