Northwest Airlines Customers Can Now Make All Transactions Using Mobile Devices

EAGAN, Minn. – (May 23, 2007) – Northwest Airlines today announced that customers can now purchase tickets, check-in for flights, and complete any transaction on its nwa.com website via handheld devices and wireless browsers, such as Blackberrys and Treos. Previously, only a portion of nwa.com features were available to mobile devices.

Travelers accessing nwa.com or mobile.nwa.com using Personal Data Assistants (PDAs) and web-based cell phones are now able to view nwa.com in its entirety in a low-graphics, mobile format. Northwest is the first airline to provide its complete web site in this format for mobile users. Customers using mobile devices can easily navigate through nwa.com and enjoy all of the features and functionality available on the full-graphics site including shopping for flights, purchasing tickets, checking in for flights, changing reservations, selecting seats and more.

“Northwest Airlines remains committed to improving our customers’ travel experience by expanding nwa.com functionality options to anyone, anywhere, using any web-enabled device,” said Al Lenza, vice president distribution and e-commerce.

Northwest has partnered with Usablenet, Inc. to create a dynamic view of existing web content and services that is specialized for viewing by users of Blackberry, Treo, PDAs, and web-based cell phones. The new technology automatically detects the browser type and provides on-the-fly content in different formats that allows nwa.com to function for all mobile devices without the need to change the original code.

All Northwest-owned nwa.com web pages are available on the mobile site in English. Northwest plans to offer additional languages in the future.

Northwest Airlines is one of the world’s largest airlines with hubs at Detroit, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Memphis, Tokyo and Amsterdam, and approximately 1,400 daily departures.
