New Restrictions on Hand-Carry Items for Flights out of China

The General Administration of Civil Aviation of China has issued new restrictions on all carry-on items for passengers traveling on international/ regional flights from China or on international flights transiting through China. These restrictions will take effect from May 1 , 2007. Please take note of the following when you prepare for your trip.

  • Liquids/Gels/Aerosols must be carried in containers with a maximum capacity of 100 ml. Containers greater than 100 ml must not be hand carried, even if partially filled. Such containers should be placed in a transparent re-sealable plastic bag with a maximum capacity of 1-liter. Every passenger is allowed only one such plastic bag, which should be checked at the security checkpoint.
  • Liquid duty free goods may be carried on, but must also be packed in sealable plastic bags. Passengers should retain the proof of purchase to be presented for security inspection. Please be aware that some countries have different restrictions for such items for inbound passengers. Therefore passengers traveling to certain international destinations may not be allowed to carry duty free items inbound at all (e.g. Japan, US).
  • Medication, baby milk/food, and special dietary requirements are exempted.
  • Domestic flights within China are exempted from the above restrictions. Passengers on domestic flights are allowed to carry on board a maximum of 1-liter of liquid, but alcohol must be in checked luggage.
