With SkyMiles®, you have the option of using your SkyMiles miles to upgrade your purchased ticket to First Class or BusinessElite® or World Business ClassSM.

You can use miles to upgrade when you purchase a qualifying ticket on Northwest, Delta ,KLM or Continental. Upgrades start as low as 5,000 miles and are available for one-way or roundtrip travel on new or existing itineraries. To upgrade on all other SkyTeam carriers, refer to the information for SkyTeam Mileage Upgrades.

Continental Airlines will be leaving the SkyTeam Alliance on October 24, 2009. The last day to redeem miles for mileage upgrades on Continental-operated flights is October 24, 2009. Mileage upgrades may continue to be booked through October 24, 2009 for travel through October 24, 2010.

• Mileage upgrades are available at nwa.com for NW itineraries and can be completed in advance of your travel dates. Visit Manage My Reservations to determine if your travel plans qualify for an upgrade using SkyMiles miles, and upgrade your reservation today.
• You may also request your upgrade award up to one day before travel by calling your local Northwest Reservations Office
• Mileage upgrades for Delta itineraries must be completed by calling your local SkyMiles service centre.

Eligibility

• Elite SkyMiles members may no longer use miles to upgrade to First Class/Business First and BusinessElite when purchasing Northwest K, T and L type fares.
• SkyMiles mileage upgrades for trans-Atlantic and trans-Pacific itineraries are only available on eligible paid Northwest Y, B and M type fares, Continental Y and B type fares, and on KLM S and B type fares.
• Only select fares will be eligible for mileage upgrades on Continental-operated flights. For flights to/from Hawaii operated by Continental, only Y fares may be upgraded.
• To determine if a ticket is eligible for SkyMiles mileage upgrades, check fare rules before you purchase or ask a Reservations Sales Agent.
• In order to claim an upgrade, the upgraded seat must be available for the entire segment. A segment is defined as all travel under a single flight number, even if it involves multiple stops.

Changes

• Changes made to revenue tickets that have already been issued and upgraded with miles will be subject to both the revenue change fee as well as the SkyMiles administrative fee.
• If you have upgraded a revenue ticket with SkyMiles miles and choose to downgrade the ticket to Economy Class, you will be required to cancel the entire reservation, redeposit the mileage, and rebook a new itinerary. You may apply the value of the revenue ticket towards the price of the new itinerary and it will be subject to the fare rules and to the SkyMiles administrative redeposit fee as well as the change fees associated with the revenue ticket. Platinum Elite members will be exempt from the SkyMiles administrative fee, but will be subject to the revenue change fee.

Day-of-Departure Upgrades to World Business Class on KLM

SkyMiles members can now upgrade from Economy Class to World Business Class on KLM non-stop flights from Asia to Europe on the day of departure using their SkyMiles miles. If you have sufficient SkyMiles miles in your account and are traveling on eligible Economy Class fares (S/B/M fares), simply request for an upgrade to World Business Class from the KLM agent when you check-in for your flight.
