Earning and redeeming WorldPerks miles on Thai AirAsia flights

1. Can I earn WorldPerks miles on Thai AirAsia travel?  
No. You can not earn WorldPerks miles on Thai AirAsia travel. WorldPerks members may only redeem WorldPerks miles for award travel on Thai AirAsia flights.

2. I live in the U.S./Europe, can I redeem award travel on Thai AirAsia?  
No. Award redemption on Thai AirAsia is currently only available to WorldPerks members with a mailing address in Asia Pacific.

3. Where can I travel with award tickets on Thai AirAsia?  
You can currently travel between Singapore and Phuket, between Bangkok and Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Hat Yai, Krabi, Phuket, Surat Thani, Ubon Ratchathani and Udon Thani in Thailand, as well as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Langkawi, Macau, Penang, Phnom Penh, Shenzhen, Singapore, Xiamen and Yangon internationally.

4. Do I always need to begin my travel from Bangkok?  
No. You can travel via Bangkok to/from any city that Thai AirAsia serves.

5. How many WorldPerks miles do I need for travel?  
WorldPerks award travel on Thai AirAsia ranges from 15,000 to 20,000 WorldPerks miles for roundtrip travel. To find out details of WorldPerks miles needed for each destination, click here.

6. Can I redeem award flights for Business Class on Thai AirAsia?  
Only one class of service (Economy) is available on Thai AirAsia flights.

Reservations and ticketing of Thai AirAsia award tickets

1. How can I make a reservation for an award ticket on Thai AirAsia?  
You may book Thai AirAsia award flights by submitting a request using the online booking form available at nwa.com/asia.

2. When will the WorldPerks miles be deducted from my account?  
WorldPerks miles will be deducted from your account once your Thai AirAsia flights are confirmed and ticketed (usually within 24 hours). The Northwest agent will make your bookings upon receipt of your request and if flights are available and confirmed, the Northwest agent will call you on the contact phone number you have provided to verify some credit card security information before the award ticket will be issued and the WorldPerks miles deducted from your account.

3. Do I need to book Thai AirAsia award tickets in advance?  
Yes, you must book and issue your award ticket at least 14 days prior to departure.

4. Can I redeem one-way award travel on Thai AirAsia?  
No, only roundtrip award travel can be redeemed on Thai AirAsia.

5. Can I leave my return trip open when making reservations?  
No, all flights must be confirmed before WorldPerks award tickets can be issued.

6. Can I combine my award travel on Thai AirAsia with award travel on Northwest or other WorldPerks Airline Partners on the same ticket?  
No. Award travel redemption on Thai AirAsia is not combinable with Northwest/SkyTeam® Alliance Partners/other Airline Partner itineraries.

7. What does 'Ticketless Travel' mean? Is Thai AirAsia a ticketless airline?  
'Ticketless' means no paper or electronic tickets will be issued to you after you've made your booking. Thai AirAsia is a ticketless airline, and once your flights are confirmed, Thai AirAsia will send you a ‘Travel Itinerary’ via e-mail, which will include your flight details and a Booking Confirmation Number.

8. Why do I need to provide my credit card information when booking my award travel on Thai AirAsia?  
A credit card is required for payment of taxes, fees and fuel surcharges for your award travel on Thai AirAsia.

9. Is there a receipt for the charges collected on my credit card?  
Yes. The ‘Travel Itinerary’ that you receive via e-mail will show the total amount of fees/charges/taxes (without breakdown) collected by Thai AirAsia. Your credit card statement will show fees/charges/taxes from Thai AirAsia, not Northwest or WorldPerks.

Change/Cancellation

1. Should I contact Northwest for my flight changes?  
Once your award ticket is confirmed, you will need to contact Thai AirAsia directly for subsequent changes or transactions.

2. Can I make flight change?  
Changes can be done through Thai AirAsia Call Centres or at any of Thai AirAsia's walk-in airport stations and sales offices. A Flight Change Fee (click here for Fee Schedule) and Fare Difference per guest and per sector will be imposed.

3. How can I change my routing to another destination?  
Changes on route(s) are not allowed. You will need to redeem/purchase a new booking and the original flights can not be cancelled.

4. Is there a charge if I make changes on my Thai AirAsia award flights?  
Yes. All changes are subject to Thai AirAsia's change/rebooking/re-issuance policies and fees. For details, please click here.

5. If I miss a Thai AirAsia flight because of my first flight delay, will Thai AirAsia put me on next available flight or refund my ticket?  
No, Thai AirAsia operates on a point-to-point basis and will not be held responsible for the consequence of any delays experienced from connecting to a Thai AirAsia flight.

6. Am I allowed to cancel my award flight once the ticket is confirmed?  
Cancellations are not permitted once the booking is confirmed. WorldPerks miles will not be redeposited to your account.

7. How long is the award ticket on Thai AirAsia valid?  
Your Thai AirAsia ticket is valid for travel one (1) year from date of issuance. Changes/Rebooking are subject to Thai AirAsia's rebooking policies and fees/charges/taxes.

8. What is Thai AirAsia's procedure for delayed flights?  
In the event of a delayed flight, Thai AirAsia will try to notify passengers in advance. Therefore, it is very important to include your contact details accurately to ensure that Thai AirAsia is able to advise you of a change.

9. What is Thai AirAsia's policy if a flight is cancelled?  
In the event that a Thai AirAsia flight is cancelled, Thai AirAsia will either transfer you to the next available Thai AirAsia flight without any additional charges and extend the validity of your booking where necessary, or retain the value of the fare you paid in a credit account with Thai AirAsia for future travel, provided that you must re-book within three months of the original flight date should you choose to travel on another time.

Check-In

1. When does check in start and end?  
Thai AirAsia check-in counters open two hours prior to scheduled flight departures and close 45 minutes before the scheduled departure. Arriving after the counter has closed will not be accepted for check in.

2. Can I reserve seats when I check in?  
Thai AirAsia operates a 'free seating' policy on board. This means that seating allocation operates on a 'first come, first served' basis where the first passenger onboard the aircraft can choose his/her seats first. Therefore, we advise all passengers to be at the boarding gate early prior to the commencement of boarding.

Luggage Requirement

1. What is the luggage allowance on Thai AirAsia flights?  
Thai AirAsia allows you to check in up to 15 kilograms of baggage. Checked baggage in excess of 15 kilograms is subject to excess baggage charge.

2. What is the maximum hand baggage dimension allowed on board Thai AirAsia?  
Only one (1) piece of hand baggage per guest is allowed. The maximum dimension of baggage is 56cm x 36cm x 23cm/22” x 14” x 9” and the weight shall not exceed 7kgs. Such baggage must fit under the seat in front of you or in an enclosed storage compartment in the cabin. Items determined by Thai AirAsia to be of excessive weight or size or of an offensive nature will not be permitted on board.

3. What security restrictions are in place for hand carry luggage?  
In line with industry practice, weapons such as antique firearms, swords, knives and/or similar items are not allowed as hand luggage. Such items must be checked-in. Prohibited items will be sonfiscated by the Airport Authorities. Click here for the Travel Advisory.

4. Can I check in for my onward flight at the point of departure and reclaim my checked in baggage at the end of the entire journey?  
Onward flights are considered as separate journeys or sectors and Thai AirAsia's flights operate on a per sector basis. Therefore, you need to claim your baggage from your first sector flight and re-check them in for the subsequent flight.

5. When is the checked baggage handling fee effective?  
The checked baggage handling fee is applied to all Thai AirAsia flights booked from 00:01hrs on April 21, 2008 onwards. This fee will not be applicable for bookings made before April 21, 2008.

6. How much am I going to be charged?  

Checked baggage will be charged on a per piece basis up to a maximum combined weight of 15kg. Anything over 15kg will be charged as excess in addition to the per piece checked baggage fee.

You can pre-book your checked baggage to save costs and time at check-in. Pre-booked checked baggage is THB30* per piece and needs to be booked more than 4 hours prior to departure. Checked baggage handling fees payable at the airport is THB50* per piece.

7. How do I pre-book my checked baggage?  
You can pre-book your checked baggage by contactingThai AirAsia4 hours or more before departure. You can also pre-book at the airport 4 hours or more before departure.

8. How many pieces can I pre-book?  

You may pre-book up to a maximum of 5 pieces of checked baggage. You will need to pay THB50* per piece for any additional checked baggage at the airport when check-in.

9. How many pieces of checked baggage can I pay for at check-in counter on the day of departure?  
There is no limit and the airport rate will apply.

10. Do infants get a checked baggage allowance?  
There is no checked baggage allowance for infants. However, Thai AirAsia offers the pram or buggy to be carried free of charge.

11. Is pre-book checked baggage handling fee refundable? Can I make changes on the number of checked baggage?  

No, the checked baggage handling fee is not refundable once pre-booked. If you have more checked baggage than what was pre-booked, you can pre-book additional checked baggage by contacting Thai AirAsia 4 hours or more before departure. Or you can pay the additional checked baggage fee at the airport at THB50* per piece.

12. How many pieces of checked baggage am I allowed to check-in? And what is the weight?  
There is no limit to the pieces of checked baggage, provided the checked baggage handling fees are paid for. Total checked baggage weight allowance is limited to 15 kg. For anything over 15 kg, an excess baggage fee will apply accordingly.

13. Is pooling of checked baggage allowed?  

Pooling of checked baggage is only allowed for travelers (2 or more) with the same PNR/booking number, provided they are traveling to a common destination, on the same flight, and present themselves and their baggage for check-in at the same time at the airport.

1. What type of aircraft does Thai AirAsia fly?  
Thai AirAsia is currently operating two types of aircraft, the Boeing 737-300 and the Airbus 320.

2. How does Thai AirAsia classify an infant?  
"Infants" are those from 9 days to under 24 months of age (on the date of travel), and must be accompanied by an adult. Only one infant is allowed per adult. No baby seats or perambulators are allowed onboard the aircraft. Please refer to Thai AirAsia Terms & Conditions of Carriage for infant traveling at www.airasia.com.

3. Do I need to pay any charges/fees for the infant traveling with me?

4. What is Thai AirAsia's policy regarding unaccompanied young passengers?  
Children below the age of 12 years old will only be allowed to travel on Thai AirAsia if accompanied by a person of at least 18 years of age. Children aged between 12-16 years old are allowed to travel alone, provided that a parent/guardian indemnifies Thai AirAsia and remains at the airport until the flight has departed.

5. How do I make a request for special assistance?  
Acceptance for carriage of disabled persons, persons with illness, or persons requiring special assistance is subject to prior arrangment with Thai AirAsia. Thai AirAsia may charge a fee for providing special assistance. Please click here for details.

6. Is there any food or drink onboard Thai AirAsia?  
There is no complimentary food or beverage served. However, snacks/drinks can be purchased onboard.

7. Am I allowed to bring my own food onboard the aircraft?  
No.
